This New Years’ Eve, we wish you a very Happy and Healthy New Year!
The customs and traditions of different cultures vary. Here in the U.S. a tradition is to go to New York City, dress in our colorful winter clothes, hat, scarf, gloves, boots and long undies. Time Square is where there the count down with that famous ball takes place. This year, with the pandemic, we’re celebrating New Years Eve at home with bells, whistles, hats, and singing Auld Laung Syne, which translates from Scottish to “old times.”
Our plan is to dress in fancy formal attire, have an elegant dinner with candles, watch old movies and wish each other a very happy and HEALTHY New Year. and throw confetti at midnight.

On New Year’s Day, everyone at our table is going to get a notebook to write their New Year’s resolutions. With the pandemic, we’re going to make new traditions, like learn a new skill: something that’s always been on the back burner for example, play the flute, learn to bake bread, play the piano, organize our closet, or simply pay our bills on time.
We’re going to call our old aunts, put their e-mail and phone number in the notebook, work on eating healthier and exercising, saying hello to our neighbors, offering to shovel their snow and take out their trash and making new friends.

On Jan. 1, 2023 we’re going to have a seriously, friendly, family waffle brunch, and each family member will get his own calendar and write in important dates: birthdays, holidays, appointments, graduations, school events and deadlines. And then, weather permitting, we’ll go on a first day walk at a Virginia State Park.
