In commemoration of Black History Month, Pine Camp Arts and Community Center will host a quilt exhibition by the Kuumba African American Quilting Guild of Richmond. Eight women will share a collection of amazing quilts and stunning works of art, which was created as a group activity project in 2017. The project is called “Round Robin” which involves each member to start a quilt by creating a block which will be the quilt’s center and will also establish the theme.
- Each month the quilt is passed on to another member for an added border until all members have added a border, therefore creating the quilt top.
- The quilt top is returned to the original member in order for her to finish the quilting.
The excitement is that no one knows exactly what the quilt results will be until the end of the project. Each quilter was challenged to create out of their own personal boundaries by stepping out of the box and to explore piecing fabric differently. The finished quilts are an explosion of creativity that is astonishing. Come meet and talk with each Kuumba member and view their “Round Robin” quilt project, which showcases an outstanding collection of colorful quilts.
