Sunday, June 9th – Friday June 15, 2024
Kick off the summer with a week of family sleepaway camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains! Let us hang with and feed your kids (5 and up) through lunchtime so you can have time to do what you need. Get to know other families who love the outdoors during optional afternoon excursions like exploring Sherando Lake, hikes in the wilderness areas & views along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fun experiences for parents and kids all week.
Love Ridge Mountain Lodging offers a variety of family sized cabins from cozy to 3-4 bedroom chalets. Our campus is set just below 3000’ in elevation on a gentle ridge above the former town site of Love, Virginia. One hundred years since homesteaders called on Love for trade, supplies & community we are introducing families, couples & individuals to the unique setting in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Experiential Learning at Love Ridge
Depending on group size, dynamics and the weather our instructors will choose from the following activities throughout the week. Our goal is to teach some specific skills while focusing broadly on team-building, competence, and confidence all while maintaining a focus on having fun!
- Orienteering – Learning how to use a map & compass our young scholars will navigate an orienteering course.
- Forest Ecology & Stewardship – Engaging with and caring for our forest and meadow landscapes will lead to interesting conversations regarding human impacts and our role in nature.
- Geology – Our campus has large sections of Appalachian bedrock to explore as we learn about geologic time and scale.Survival & Woods Skills – Making a fire, building a shelter and learning basic emergency skills help boost confidence.
- Edible Landscapes – For centuries humans have lived off the land. Team Building Games & Activities – Experience our low ropes course
