Virginia Museum of History & Culture

VMHC offers free hands-on learning once a week in the summer. Front Lawn Fun allows children and their families to play with toys that children from the colonial-era would’ve enjoyed. From cup and ball to Jacob’s ladder, there is something for everyone. Education Specialists are on hand during Front Lawn Fun to enrich learning and answer any questions. Front Lawn Fun is a FREE, drop-in event; admission to the museum requires tickets.

 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

VMFA’s permanent exhibits are always free to visit. Get inspired! Pack a sketch pad to create your own reproductions, or print off a free scavenger hunt from the museum’s website.

Pack a picnic to enjoy in the gorgeous sculpture garden.

Valentine First Freedom Center

is always free! Take in the First Freedom Monument, and learn about the leaders who influenced a positive change for our country.

Virginia War Memorial

VWM offers free admission daily. Take a guided, or self-guided tour to learn about everything from the evolution of military transportation to the Tuskegee Airmen. Don’t miss walking through the Shrine of Memory, a touching memorial.

Maggie L. Walker Historic Site

Take a FREE guided tour and learn about Maggie Lena Walker, a woman who contributed to her community, by chartering a bank and newspaper. The museum is filled with artifacts and you will find the guides incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to teaching about Walker’s legacy.

Consider completing the Junior Ranger Booklet prior to your visit, for your children to earn a patch upon visiting the museum.
