Mother’s Day falls on the second Sunday in May. Traditionally, many have brunch at a favorite restaurant, but this year, with many people still being cautious by social distancing, it’s imperative to enforce more variations on the theme that still show your love. Below are a number of do-it-yourself, at home suggestions to make this Mother’s Day special.
- Set the table with elegant china and flowers, a menu with name of the restaurant, address, hours and all the items, with various combinations from single items, to combos and beverages. be sure to clean up including washing and putting away dishes and utensils.
- Bring out the old family photo album to reminisce.
- Arrange for a photographer to come to your home for a porch photograph.
- Design a “do it yourself” card with a message, a doodle, a photography and your name, (she’ll keep it forever).
- Repurpose the Easter basket into a spa basket. include shampoo, conditioner, lavender soap, hand cream, a tiny notebook and pen, a china tea cup, a box of fancy teas, an emery board, a bottle of nail polish, a muffin to go with that second cup of coffee and a few family photos.
- Create a gift of any sort. This will be kept forever.
- Make a coupon book. Include a day of washing dishes, taking out the trash, vacuuming, doing the laundry, changing the linens, balancing her check book, a chore free day.
- Hire a landscaper.
- Serenade her.
- Replicate a movie theater with a snack bar with popcorn, soft drinks, napkins and a show time for her favorite movie, including a poster with a show time.
- Play board games.
- Make a family collage of photos in chronological order.
- Hire a cleaning service to come once a month for a few months.
- Create a calendar with all the birthdays written in.
- Update an address book.
- Set up a Zoom chat with a childhood friend, with a favorite cousin-better yet, teach her how to Zoom.
- Give her a gift certificate to her favorite shop, restaurant, beauty salon, movie theater. Yes, they will open eventually.
- Help with the dishes, clean the house, cook a meal.
- Order in dinner. One a week.
- Help, not only do a deep house cleaning and culling, but set up and arrange the yard sale.
- Arrange for a takeout elegant brunch.
- Go for walk in one of Richmond’s parks or cemeteries.
- Plant a perennial flower garden
