- James River Week is September 9 – 16, and Maymont has planned a full week of special programs and activities celebrating life along the James, from art photography and a rain garden workshop to a family night hike and a film screening with the makers of “A Sturgeon Story.”
- Bier-Garden – Friday & Saturday, Sept. 22-23, last year’s inaugural Bier-Garden drew thousands of fans of authentic German food and drink, so we are expanding this year’s two-night celebration of fall on Maymont’s Carriage House Lawn, with more food and beer selections, more live music, and a larger Kinderzone to entertain the younger set on Saturday. Tickets go on sale next week.
- Garden Glow presented by Kroger – October 19 – November 12 (Wednesdays – Sundays), Maymont’s signature fall event returns to transform Maymont after dark with creative lighting throughout the gardens, and a Glow Village with fun food, fire pits, interactive light installations and, of course, a Glow Bar!
- Merry Market – December 1-2 and 8-9 (Friday-Saturday), expanding to two weekends this year, Maymont is doubling the fun for this holiday-themed artisan market on the Carriage House Lawn. It’s a fun way to ring in the season and support local craftspeople in a festive and cozy winter wonderland.
- Maymont introduces Out-of-School Day Camps for families who need options for their K-8th grade students on select days when classes are out of session at local schools.
- Homeschool Days, Wednesdays in September, are a fun option for homeschooled students who want a learning-centered field trip.
- Toddler Time, offering hands-on learning activities for children ages 18 months to four years, returns on Mondays after Labor Day at 10am.
- The Robins Nature Center is a fun place to beat the heat and still interact with nature. Explore the James River watershed through interactive displays and aquaria filled with fish, reptiles and amphibians native to the region, plus Louis the otter and a 34-foot-tall climbing sculpture. Open 10am–5pm, Fridays–Sundays.
- Maymont’s Italian and Japanese Gardens are extra lush this year and ablaze in vivid colors. A new self-guided Historic Garden Tour (Fridays–Sundays) explains the backstory and design of the Italian Garden. And the waterfall is back, now that the city has restored the water level in the canal.
- Maymont Mansion offers a pleasant refuge from the summer heat, too. Stop by for a narrated audio tour (Fridays–Sundays) before it closes later in the fall in preparation for the Maymont 2025 project this winter.
