Maymont invites children to seek adventure this summer in its popular summer camps for preschoolers through eighth graders. Online registration opens on January 21 for a varied program of week-long sessions that offer outdoor exploration, animal encounters and historical discovery through games, crafts and engaging activities. Each camp is led by experienced staff and takes full advantage of Maymont’s expansive grounds and facilities.
New sessions this year cater to children’s imagination with themes like “Dragons and Donkeys” and “Creatures of Legend,” which involve captivating tales and treasure hunts to uncover the secrets behind urban legends and animal folklore.
Ever-popular camps like “Rhythm & Rhyme,” “That’s Gross!” and “Life on the Wild Side” tap into children’s natural curiosity about animal life cycles, plant adaptations and natural mysteries. “Tales From the 100-Acre Wood” connects young children’s love for the fictional Winnie-the-Pooh characters with real-life encounters with bears, pigs, owls and donkeys.
“Our camps take full advantage of Maymont’s rolling hills, winding waterways and historic buildings to keep children engaged in both fun and learning,” said Krista Weatherford, Director of Programming and Community Engagement. “This year’s line-up has expanded with new themes based on children’s interests, as well as additional sessions for the most popular age groups.”
Camp sessions are either half- or full-day, with shorter sessions for younger campers and longer sessions for older campers. Maymont members starting at the Family level enjoy first dibs on camp registration, starting January 14, along with discounted enrollment. Membership details are here.
