Fall is here. And when autumn settles in, so do the pumpkins. You know it’s pumpkin time because the air is crisp and it’s time to break out pumpkin everything! The fall season is one of the most exciting times of the year in Richmond marked by pumpkin patches, corn mazes and farm fun. Best of all, these activities offer an outdoor change of scene.

Fill your calendar with tons of fall activities and pumpkin photo ops during the week or on the weekend at one of these destinations.

BEST PUMPKIN PATCHES & CORN MAZES AROUND RICHMOND

Here’s a list of all the farms we know of within an hour or so from Richmond where you can pick pumpkins, go on a hayride, pet farm animals, or find your way through a maze of corn. You can explore more pick your own farms from this useful website.

Ashland Berry Farm

Ashland Berry Farm, 12607 Old Ridge Rd. Beaverdam, VA – teL: (804) 227-3601 Open daily 10am-5pm through Oct. 31. Pumpkin patch cultivating 30 acres of pumpkins, and growing 39 varieties of pumpkins and gourds. Open on weekends from 10am-6pm with the last hayride leaving for the patch at 5pm.

Pick from the seasons best pumpkins! As always we have FREE parking and All you can carry pumpkins and hayride to the patch for $25. There will also be mums, gourds, corn stalks, and hay bales to decorate your front porch. Other kid activities and Donut Shop open on October 2nd.* Only for the brave: Terror on the Farm

Braehead Farm, 1130 Tyler St Fredericksburg, VA 22401, Annual Fall Festival every weekend, through Oct 31, from 9am-6pm. Hayrides through the decorated forest, an interactive game within the corn maze, a sunflower walk for the little ones! Also, visit with the Great Pumpkin in the pumpkin patch sitting on his hay throne from 10am-1pm and 2-5pm… bring your cameras! Play in the Family Playgrounds and visit the farm animals! $10.00 per person, age 2 and under free! (Fall/Winter Season Pass holders only pay $5.00 per person, age 2 and under free.)NO RESERVATIONS OR PRE-PURCHASED TICKETS NEEDED. ALL PUMPKINS ARE SOLD BY THE POUND AT .70 CENTS PER POUND. There is a pumpkin patch in the Festival area AND in the front of the farm in the PYO fields. We will have some wagons, but feel free to bring your own! Sometimes wagons are all in use. ALSO, YOU CAN JUST COME TO PICK PUMPKINS IN THE FRONT “”Pick Your Own” FIELDS, and pay no admission…just pay for what you pick! Also vegetables and flowers to pick! Stay for lunch and picnic. Ginter Park United Methodist Church

Located at 1010 W. Laburnum Ave in Richmond, this Pumpkin Patch “appears” on the corner of W. Laburnum & Seminary Avenues!
 
Pumpkins get delivered to us on September 30th, and the Patch is open until Halloween Night. Hours are noon to 5 on Sundays; noon to 6 Monday-Friday, and 9am to 6pm on Saturdays.
 
Each Friday, we have Storytime Fridays @4 with the Richmond Fire Department! The firefighters volunteer their time to read stories in the Patch to the kids after school, and snacks are served (free!)
 
Each Saturday we have a different event, held in The Patch:
Oct. 7: Indigenous Peoples Day, 10am-4pm (free admission!)
Oct. 14: Fun & Games Day, 10am-4pm (free, plus concession stand to purchase snacks
Oct. 21: Campfire, Chili & Movie Night: 6pm (free!)
Oct. 28:  Fall Harvest Market Day (shopping a wide assortment of vendors!)
HALLOWEEN:  Closing Party at 6pm! Trick or Treating on 2 blocks of a closed Seminary Avenue.  At the Patch, we give out candy, cider for the grown-ups, and show Peanut’s “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” on the screen!
