“Trolls: Save the Humans,” an exhibit featuring six huge trolls made by Thomas Dambo, from reclaimed materials is at Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center now through January 20, 2025. This would make a perfect family day trip to see this world renowned exhibit and explore the Aquarium’s exhibits, too!
Things to Know about Trolls: Save the Humans
There are 6 trolls along the Nature Trail between the North and South Buildings of the Virginia Aquarium. Each has a name and a story, which you can read about prior to or during your visit. Dambo puts so much thought and consideration into each design – it’s inspiring! The trolls remind us humans to treat the Earth with kindness and respect, but each does so in a unique way. This is such an excellent experience for anyone who loves art, STEM, or the environment. Plus, it opens the door to many conversations with your children about our planet.
The trolls are spread throughout the path so that you will get to take in the water views, play at the small play area, picnic, or climb the tower on your walk.
Preparing for Your Visit
“Trolls: Save the Humans” is included with daily admission ($29.95/adult; $24.95/youth; children 4 and under: free), so be sure to check out the other exhibits. If you have children, I suggest visiting the South Building for hands-on learning, two play areas, and an amazing outdoor playscape called, “Our Watershed.” Each design and detail allows children the opportunity to learn through play and discover new things about animals, the ecosystem, and helping others in many different ways.
As the trolls are located outdoors along the Nature Trail, be sure to bundle up if visiting this winter, and wear comfortable walking shoes. Allow at least 2 hours to experience the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center.
Saving for Your Trip
To save money, consider packing lunch to enjoy a picnic outdoors (weather permitting). Otherwise, you could purchase lunch onsite at Open Bay Mermaid Cafe.
Check for applicable admission discounts, including military and senior. If your family plans to visit more than twice this year, look into the Family Membership, as it may be more economical to purchase membership than daily tickets.
