This Halloween, everyone is entitled to a good scare – from the comfort of a seat in a cinema or your own couch. Spooky season only comes along once a year, so as the leaves and temperature begin to drop, it is time to break out the apple cider and spooky movies. There are several places in Richmond that are safely showing your favorite eerie films including a number of drive ins, Check out this list compiled by Richmond on the Cheap intern, Becca Mullins, to find her top picks for Halloween movie to watch locally or from the safety of your living room – on a budget.

Scary movies at Richmond cinemas or to stream at home:
•Beetlejuice at Bowtie Cinemas – A classic comedy with Michael Keaton and Alec Baldwin stars a couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of a “bio-exorcist” in order to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.
•The Addams Family at Bowtie Cinemas – A modern rendition of the classic story in which spooky family members await the coming of an even spookier family member as trouble arises when a TV personality threatens to take their mansion.
•Monsters Inc. at Bowtie Cinemas – A family friendly Disney-Pixar film starring the voices of Billy Crystal and John Goodman, two monster roommates come across a young girl with the name of Boo who creates a sweet bond between monster and human.
•The Empty Man at Bowtie Cinemas – After a group of teens from a small Midwestern town begin to mysteriously disappear, the locals believe it is the work of an urban legend known as The Empty Man.
•Poltergeist on Netflix – Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family when ghosts commune with them through the television set.This classic is available on Netflix, a streaming service accessible with a subscription or a free trial!
•Silence of the Lambs on Netflix – One of the most classic horror films of all time, Hannibal Lector is a psychiatrist who turns cannibal as FBI trainee Clarice Starling ventures into a maximum-security asylum in an attempt to understand Lector and his mind. This is also available on Netflix, a streaming service accessible with a subscription or a free trial.
•The Cabin in the Woods on Amazon Prime – When five college friends arrive at a remote forest cabin for a little vacation, little do they expect the horrors that await them as they fall victim to backwoods zombies. This 2011 film is available on website Amazon Prime.
•Dial M for Murder on Tubi – 1954 Hitchcock film stars Ray Milland has ex-tennis pro Tony Wendice wanting to have his wealthy wife, Margot murdered so he can get his hands on her inheritance. This classic is available on the Tubi app, an application completely free without required subscription.
•Cloverfield on Tubi – As a group of New Yorkers enjoy a going-away party, they soon face the most terrifying night of their lives as skyscraper-sized creature begins to destroy the city. This is also available on the Tubi app, an application completely free without required subscription.
•The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Hulu – In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. You can find this on Hulu.com, accessible through a free trial or subscription.
