Gilded Age Curator Collab:

On Thursday, February 22, at 6:30 pm, curators from Maymont and the Lippitt House Museum in Providence, Rhode Island, are co-presenting “Two Men Who Made Their Future: Virginia & Rhode Island After the Civil War,” a free virtual program about two men, James Dooley and Charles Lippett, who built immense fortunes and influenced their communities in the wake of the Civil War. Advance registration required.

World Wildlife Day

Saturday, March 2, and Maymont is offering a series of Keeper Talks and animal enrichment training sessions from 10:30 am – 4 pm at The Robins Nature Center*, Maymont Farm and the habitats of the rescued Virginia wildlife. It’s a chance to learn about how animals have adapted to their habitats, both out in the wild and down on the farm. Full schedule here. No need to register, just drop by. Outdoor programs are free, donations are appreciated.

Spring Break Week at Richmond-area schools is April 1 – 5, and Maymont is “stay-cation central”! Anyone looking for something to do with the kids can stop by and take in the gardens and grounds in full bloom, visit with the animals at Maymont Farm and the habitats for rescued wildlife, and The Robins Nature Center* will be open all week from 10 am – 5 pm for the “Run of the River” experience, with hands-on displays, a climbing sculpture and aquariums that illustrate life in and around the James River. Or stop by the Stone Barn Welcome Center to see selections from Maymont’s Gilded Age collections on exhibit, or take a walk through history with the self-guided audio Historic Garden Tour.*
