Spring is in the air and it’s also the perfect time to give your home organization a refresh. I think of the change of seasons as an opportunity to improve any areas in our house that are no longer working for our family.
Staying organized can make you feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. Having a good organization system can save you money and make those hectic days so much easier. A great place to start early spring organization is in the kitchen.
Kitchen Organizing Made Easy
Refrigerator Organization
Let’s begin with a very popular spot-the fridge. We have a helpful routine each week of cleaning out old foods before we go grocery shopping.
When there isn’t an abundance of extra items, it makes staying organized so much easier. Using a lazy susan and some clear produce containers can be a game changer.
When everyone in the family can easily find things, it helps build independence. It also saves energy because our kids are spending less time with the doors open, which saves money on the electric bill.
Also, having the fruits and vegetables ready to eat in clear containers helps everyone to make healthier choices!
Organizing Food Storage Containers
The next kitchen area that can get a little crazy is the tupperware cabinet. We had an endless cycle of being attacked by lids and containers every time we opened the doors.
It always stressed me out when I had to shove everything back in and close the door quickly in hopes it stayed in place. Organizing your tupperware doesn’t take much time and it can have a huge impact.
My philosophy on tupperware is, less is more. It’s important to limit how many containers you have. I know we can all get attached to our favorite tupperware, but try to think of other ways to use some of those containers, for example, lego storage.
Another tip that helps is to store each container with the lid attached. It can make such a difference to be able to open those cabinets and nothing falls out! Life changing.
Pantry Organization
The real MVP in our kitchen is where all the snacks live-the pantry. The pantry is a high traffic area that can get messy very quickly. Having a simple system that is easy to maintain is key.
I like to group similar foods in large bins. For example, our breakfast bin. That will hold oatmeal, waffle mix, pancake mix, extra bottles of syrup, etc.
I also think it’s helpful to keep all the kid snacks easily accessible. If there are certain snacks you want to save as a treat, you can store those up higher. I prefer lazy susan containers for all the canned foods.
It’s so easy to spin and see exactly what you have and nothing can hide.
Having organization helps to save money in the long run because we only buy what we truly need.
If you need some extra motivation while organizing, I always enjoy listening to a podcast, my favorite music or even turning on a show in the background. Please watch Tricia’s video below for spring organization for more tips.
